What should I do before I swap my SIM

There are a couple of things we recommend you do before triggering your SIM swap.

1. Back up your Contacts

2. Save any Voicemails you don't want to lose

How do I back up my contacts?

Before you swap your SIM card, it’s a good idea to back up any contacts saved in your current SIM card, so you don’t lose any phone numbers of your nearest and dearest. You can see below how to do this.

iPhone users

For iPhone users, your contacts are by default saved to your phone. If you think you might have some contacts on your SIM, follow these steps:

  1. On your iPhone, open the “Settings” app.
  2. Tap Contacts > Tap on “Import SIM Contacts”.
  3. If asked, choose where you want to import your SIM card contacts.
  4. Wait for the import to complete.
  5. Open Contacts and make sure that your contacts are imported.

Android users

  1. Go to your Contacts app.
  2. Go to the menu and tap on settings.
  3. Tap ‘Import/export contacts’.
  4. Tap on Import.
  5. Select your SIM card and then tap Import.
  6. Tap on ‘All’ in the top left corner then tap ‘Done’ at the bottom of your screen.

Other

  1. Go to your contacts.
  2. Select menu or options.
  3. Settings > Import Contacts > Import from SIM.

You may need to refer to your phone’s user guide for specific settings.

How do I save my voicemails?

The most reliable way to save any important voicemails is to play them over speaker phone and record them on another device. Please make sure you do this before swapping your current SIM card to the new one, as any current voicemails won’t be accessible anymore once the new SIM is activated.
